Olive 4HD
$2,000.00
Released November, 2009
The Pros:Large 2TB of storage. Can be controlled remotely via free iPod Touch or iPhone app. Gigabit and 802.11N support for speedy network connectivity.
The Cons:Cheap / cliche top panel stylization (various sized words depicting genres of music all mashed together). Extremely high price. Poor value - really offers no revolutionary functionality compared to much cheaper options such as the Squeezebox Touch.
The Olive 4HD is an HD Hi-Fi media server/streamer released as an upgrade from the original Olive 4. It features an enhanced Burr-Brown PCM1792A digital-to-analog (DAC) converter that provides 24-bit audio with a 192kHz sample rate.

The result is outputted audio quality that is 250x better than a conventional 16-bit CD. Its 2TB hard drive and ultra-fast Gigabit/WiFi connectivity allows it to serve as a centralized digital library capable of storing approximately 6000 CDs or 20,000 high-resolution 24-bit tracks. Users can transfer new content either via the integrated CD mechanism or directly from their PC/Mac via Ethernet or USB. Included also are outputs for connecting to a stereo receiver, as well as a built-in HDMI interface for navigating the device via a TV.
Additional Information
Additional features include a free iPhone/iPod Touch application that allows a user to control the server from anywhere within their home network; a large 4.5” touchscreen display; and a dozen free HD tracks courtesy of Chesky Records.

madcap:
#olive_4hd what a ridiculous review. Why? Well for a start this is the ONLY review that states the finish as cheap! Every other review I have read states the finish as quality. This is also the ONLY review that states the Olive is poor value, every other review that I have read states the Olive is exceptional value. What about the sound? The sound that the Olive produces is staggeringly good and in a completely different league to the Squeezebox Touch. Its like saying a Porsche 911 is poor value compared to a VW Polo
