Asus O!Play HDP-R1
$170.00
Released June, 2009
The Pros:Plays a wide array of file formats, very little it can't handle. Interface is well designed - everything is obvious and simple. Can handle large file collections gracefully, only a few seconds to retrieve the file list.
The Cons:No outputs for legacy systems, lack of component output. Can only connect via wired Ethernet, no WiFi (no accessories either). Firmware updates are difficult due to a website that experiences frequent downtime.
The Asus O!Play HDP-R1 is a versatile, high-definition media streamer designed to stream video, music, and photo content from a wired device (PC, USB, eSATA, Ethernet) to a compatible RCA or HDMI v1.3 display.

Designed to be setup easily and to operated with barely any lag, the HDP-R1 can stream full 1080p high-definition video content across a network without any buffer problems whatsoever. Besides playing media files from a PC or the Internet, the device can also be used to transfer files from a network to a USB or eSATA device, or vice versa. Unfortunately the device doesn’t support YouTube, though a firmware update to v1.29P allows access to RSS feeds, Flickr, Picasa, Internet radio stations, and Internet TV stations (via Muzee).
